BEHIND THE LENS

I've been involved with art for over forty years, as a curator, art writer and art consultant. For the last decade and a half I've been taking photos. Compulsively. My preferred subjects seem to be people, but I also find myself drawn to views of human habitation, especially the quiet, largely unseen urban places - back alleys and industrial locations - that reveal so much about our society as a collection of individuals.

I live in Edmonton, Alberta, a location that (especially in the 70s, 80s and 90s) was home to a vibrant community of visual artists working in the Modernist tradition. That art scene continues, although with much less public attention and support.
